Long delays in launching programs when using a proxy server

I just downloaded the new 2.5.1_rc1 release. I am having a problem that has plagued me for a while with XQuartz.

I have two network configurations on my Mac at work. One of them is "normal" ethernet, just using DHCP etc. The second one is the same but also uses a SOCKS5 proxy connection (using ssh -D portnum). When the proxy config is active and I run an xemacs window or sometimes when I just open a new X window, there is usually a loooong delay before the window opens. I just timed it and it was about 2 minutes and 55 seconds. If I use the normal network interface, there is no delay. This is pretty darned reproducible.

This sounds like a problem with your proxy server. X11 doesn't care how the connection gets to it.
